I am grateful to be able to live, create, and gather as a settler in the land that many know as Toronto.
I want to acknowledge this land as the traditional territories and trading grounds of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit River, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. It is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
As a settler, I have work to do in moving towards a more right relationship with the land and her historical and contemporary residents. My hope for land acknowledgements is that they contribute to an ongoing conversation and encourage people to research the historical and contemporary circumstances of the communities that they live in.
